Shawn Krantz
Experience: Mr Krantz is a founding partner of Brownstone Capital and has been involved in the commercial real estate industry for 25 years. Brownstone focuses on representing borrowers involved in distressed debt situations, with an emphasis in Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (“CMBS”) workouts. Current and recent workout assignments for Brownstone total 43 loans aggregating $898MM. Since its founding in 2000, Brownstone Capital has acquired 11 properties totaling over 730,000 square feet. It sold a majority of its portfolio in 2007-08 allowing it to focus entirely on consulting on debt and equity restructures. Prior to co-founding Brownstone Capital, Mr. Krantz worked for 14 years with Bank of America and Banc of America Securities (predecessor banks). In 1994, he was part of the start-up team within NationsBank (later BOA) originating, structuring and securitizing CMBS. In the early years of CMBS, he managed the CMBS origination team for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. During the early ‘90s, Mr. Krantz managed a team of debt workout specialists within the bank. His team successfully resolved $450 million of troubled debt (1990 valuations). He has served as a CMBS expert witness for six special servicers in nine different bankruptcies. During the late 1980s, Mr. Krantz was manager of a group originating, underwriting, closing and syndicating real estate acquisition and construction loans for both commercial and residential properties.
Teaching & Education: From 1995 to the Spring of 2010, Mr. Krantz has been a practitioner faculty member at Johns Hopkins University's Real Estate Institute in the M.S. in Real Estate program. His graduate-level courses included Real Estate Finance and Real Estate Investment. Mr. Krantz became a Capstone Advisor for Georgetown's Masters of Professional Studies in Real Estate program in the Summer of 2010 and will join the program as an adjunct faculty member in the Spring of 2011. He will be teaching the program's Real Estate Investments course. Mr. Krantz has a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Hamline University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Loyola University.

Kenneth J. Cusick
Experience: Mr. Cusick is a seasoned real estate and banking professional with 25 years of experience ranging from distressed asset management and mortgage lending to real estate market research and land development. Mr. Cusick has worked out or restructured over $400 million of commercial mortgage debt and has underwritten well over $2 billion. He has managed underwriting departments for two major lenders and acquired non-performing debt and equity real estate. His diverse background covers most commercial real estate disciplines including loan underwriting, originations, sales, acquisitions, development, law, leasing and property management.
Education: Mr. Cusick holds a master’s degree in Management with a concentration in Finance, a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in Accounting and a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Amy G. Shiman
Experience: Ms. Shiman is an experienced commercial real estate executive, having represented several national lenders with institutional transactions. During the mid 1980s-1990s she managed large portfolios of distressed real estate debt having negotiated loan restructures, repositioning assets and effectuating asset dispositions. Later Ms. Shiman underwrote new credits in NYC with Fleet Bank’s commercial construction loan department. She has restructured or originated over $1 billion of commercial real estate transactions during her career, and worked on a variety of property types including office, mixed-use, retail, apartments, industrial, and hotels. She has supervised both in-house and third-party real estate professionals. Ms. Shiman has lived and worked in Chicago, NYC, and most recently Washington, DC with experience in many other markets across the U.S. Her employers have included Fleet Bank/ Bank of America, Heller Real Estate Financial at its Chicago headquarters and Continental Illinois National Bank.
Education: Ms. Shiman obtained her Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s business school, with a major in Real Estate Appraisal and Investment Analysis. Her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature was also granted from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has taught Advanced Real Estate Finance at Fleet Bank’s headquarters, and has been a speaker/moderator at numerous industry conferences.
David A. Sislen
Experience: Mr. Sislen serves as co-Managing Director of The Faragut Group. He has been actively involved in the real estate industry for more than 25 years. For the past 19 years he has been the President and Managing Director of Bristol Capital Corporation. Bristol Capital has acquired, owns and manages over 1,000,000 square feet of commercial real estate in the Washington, D.C. area. Prior to founding Bristol Capital, Mr. Sislen was a senior vice president of CRI Inc., a real estate syndication firm, where his responsibilities included the development, acquisition, and syndication of more than $650 million of commercial real estate including more than 4,100 hotel rooms and 1,350,000 square feet of office space. The vast majority of Mr. Sislen’s career has been involved with the development and acquisition of operating properties or the asset management and valuation of troubled properties.
Teaching & Education: Mr. Sislen has been an adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins University's Real Estate Institute in the M.S. in Real Estate program since 2005. He teaches graduate-level courses in Real Estate Finance and Real Estate Investment. He holds an MBA (with honors) in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business and a B.A. in Economics (Magna Cum Laude) from Tulane University.
