Brownstone Capital is led by three partners with a combined 90 years of commercial real estate, finance, and investment experience spanning CMBS, capital markets, merchant banking, and operating company leadership.
Founding Partner
Shawn Krantz is a founding partner of Brownstone Capital with over 40 years of commercial real estate experience.
Prior to co-founding Brownstone Capital, Shawn worked for 14 years with Bank of America and Banc of America Securities (predecessor banks). In 1994, he was part of the start-up team within NationsBank (later BOA) originating, structuring and securitizing CMBS. In the early years of CMBS, he managed the CMBS origination team for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. During the early '90s, Shawn managed a team of debt workout specialists within the bank. His team successfully resolved over $450 million of troubled debt (1990 valuations). He has served as a CMBS expert witness for six special servicers in nine different bankruptcies. During the late 1980s, Shawn led a group originating, underwriting, closing and syndicating real estate acquisition and construction loans for most types of income-producing properties. Since 1995, Shawn has served as adjunct faculty teaching graduate level real estate finance and investments courses at both Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University.
Shawn has a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Hamline University and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from Loyola University.
Partner
Kevin Hill is a partner of Brownstone Capital and has over 20 years of experience in commercial real estate and renewable energy investing, including seven years as an operational CFO.
He has completed real estate transactions totaling over $1.5 billion in aggregate value. Kevin has structured capital in numerous real estate equity and debt investments (acquisitions and developments) utilizing fund discretionary capital, institutional joint ventures, and private investor equity syndications. Real estate property types have included multifamily, condominiums, office, retail, and land. As a CFO, Kevin's work was comprised of capital formation (corporate and project-level finance), structuring and negotiating commercial agreements, financial planning & analysis, insurance, treasury, and financial reporting.
Kevin has a B.B.A. Finance, Minor in Economics, from James Madison University and an M.S. in Real Estate Finance and Development from Johns Hopkins University. Kevin is a CFA charterholder.
Partner
Jason Levine is a partner of Brownstone Capital and has over 30 years of investment and corporate experience including operating roles such as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, General Counsel, and senior corporate and business development executive.
He has managed merchant banking portfolios of over $150 million including investments in REITs, real estate developers and managers, and CMBS holdings. Jason is also a former investment banker and venture capitalist. Additional experiences include structuring over $1 billion of financing of local government major capital projects, managing PJM queue projects (energy investments), and renewable energy project development.
Jason has a B.A. from Wesleyan University and an M.B.A./J.D. from the University of Virginia.
